The Organisation of Special Needs Education Teachers (OSNET) has played a pivotal role in shaping inclusive education policies and engaging stakeholders to support learners with special needs in Tanzania. Through consistent advocacy, OSNET has influenced national and local education frameworks, ensuring that the rights of children with disabilities are recognized and integrated into policy planning and implementation.
OSNET conducts dialogues, workshops, and consultative sessions with policymakers, school administrators, and community leaders. These engagements have increased understanding of the challenges faced by learners with special needs, advanced the implementation of Sign Language Programs in inclusive schools since 2019, promoted inclusive teaching practices, and supported the development and adoption of favorable policies and resource allocations within schools.
In addition, OSNET collaborates with local and international partners to strengthen technical capacity, develop guidelines, and provide evidence-based recommendations for inclusive education. This collaboration has enhanced policy alignment and ensured that stakeholders actively participate in creating equitable learning environments.
The impact of these initiatives is significant: improved awareness of inclusive education, better access to resources for special needs learners, and strengthened networks among educators, government bodies, and development partners. OSNET’s advocacy has established it as a trusted voice in Tanzania, contributing to systemic change and fostering a more inclusive and supportive education system for all learners.
